Chapter 6: The Uncertainty Principle
I was back in my office, waiting for something to happen. Feynman had told me that nothing could happen until this evening, but I couldn't get Lily out of my head, couldn't stop worrying about her. The door to my office swung open and Tony Bongo walked in.

"Hi, Cheapie. How's the shamus business treating you?"

"Well, well. No big gorilla to protect the poor little gangster today. They're making the poor little gangster walk around all by himself."

"Keep it up, Cheapie, and you'll get more than you bargained for."

I stood up and walked around the desk. I hit Bongo hard in the midsection. He folded up like a tent and sat down heavily, gasping for breath, his face drained of all color. Then Bongo got to his feet and and hit me in the stomach. I had braced myself, but his punch was no joke. I felt my legs get weak and fell back into my chair fighting not to gag. After an anxious second, my stomach decided to be a good boy.

"OK," I said. "We got that over with. "How about a drink?" For a fleeting moment I almost liked Bongo.

"Oh, jeez," said Bongo, looking at his watch. "I got to run."

A minute later she walked into the room. My heart was in my throat. I began to babble. "I didn't remember that I would see you, " I said, "somehow, don't ask me how, it never occurred to me. I was thinking about you all day, but when Tony Bongo came in it slipped my mind."

"Of course it did. It had to. There's a little thing called the Uncertainty Principle that says it had to."

"Never mind that. What about you? How can you volunteer for something like that? What if you never come back?"

"Who cares. I'm just a two-bit stripper. When my looks go, I'll be nothing."

     "I care."

"That's sweet. But, unfortunately there's someone else."

     "Feynman."

Lily nodded. "He walked into Shrodinger's one night with his bongos and things changed forever for me. If we can get proof that his wife is no longer alive, he'll marry me."

"But if his wife is dead, then you'll probably be dead too. And if you go over to the other side and she's alive, you'll both be stuck over there. It doesn't make any sense."

     "The heart has its reasons."

"That's the second screwiest thing you've ever told me."
